Description
Recording of an oral history interview with Herman Quist by Arnold Opdahl in 1975. Quist was born in 1900 in a log house. Herman bought the indian mound site and donated it to the Pope County Historical Society. When his parents came in 1900, they would often see Indians camped between Pelican and Minnewaska lakes, near shallow pond, as they moved through the area. He believes that there was a village in the area. He talked about farming in the depression. He remembers when the land was filled with prairie chickens, before pheasants were introduced.
