Letter Transcription:
Dear Kathy,
Well here goes nothing again. I have been meaning to get a letter off to you but frankly have just been lazy because I certainly haven't been busy. To start at the end (I always was a bit backward) today I went to school and then Sharon met me and we went over to her house. We layed out in her back yard and was it ever hot!!! Sharon offered me a vodka collins and I said, "My Lord it isn't even noon yet." But it was 12 after 12 and so we started in on the liquor. We drank all afternoon and I really got bombed and burned to a crisp. Right now I can barely sit down and am suffering from a miserable headache or perhaps I should say hangover. We got out Sharon's stilts and I must say that I fell flat on my face. We came home about seven and her date picked her up here, and I don't know when she'll be back but I hope that she will be. Talked to Karen, Sarah, and Patty but none of them could go out drinking with me so I am alone. John is coming over with some pizza later on.
I did not do badly at bowling with 130, 118, and 132. Frankly I was proud since as you know I haven't done too well before.
My classes are real good, and Dr. Willson is just adorable but Beatty is talking over Loer's class for a short while and, I cannot stand that man. Soc. is quite good also but by that time I'm half asleep. By the way I saw Tom the first day of class but we did not talk too long and he hasn't called or anything. I am really disappointed, but then what can you do.
I got a letter from Mom today and they are in Yellowstone. At the rate they're going they'll probably be back next week. She said that they were going to stay at one spot for a while and get in some fishing.
Alma or someone over there calls me up very thing to see if I'm still alive but I fell it is nice of them to be concerned about me. I think I'll go over there some time this week end.
I am rather tired and this letter keeps getting worse and worse but bare with me. Not following your advice I have been alone all but one night. I don't mind very much but the thing is that when alone I hate to go to bed and am dead tired the next day. I'm just got to stop that damned Jack Paar. Trouble is that it isn't even a good show. He is on right now with Alex King.
By the way thanks for leaving the blue sailboat pattern blouse at home, I just love it.
I cleaned the whole upstairs really good but haven't done much down here yet. But the most positively horrible thing happened. As I walked up the basement stairs I saw ants and what appeared to me to be millions of them. If there is one thing I hate with a purple passion it is ants. I almost ran screaming out of the house but then it dawned on me that I was the only that could do anything about them. So I got out the bomb and sprayed the place like crazy and then washed like mad. I hope that now I'm rid of the little monsters.
Mother tried to call that last night you were home but it must have been when we were out. She said she thought we would not waste your last night. How right!
Just after I finished that last page Johnny came over. We ate pizza and I gave him a couple of drinks. Then (still Friday) Sharon called from a party & this guy wanted to come over & get me. It was a problem with John, but I managed to get rid of him finally. The party was a blast. The guy was just terrific. It was a house at 2819 Irving So. (dig that address) five boys rent the house. The fellow I was with has been working his way through college by bar tending and can he mix drinks. But by that time I was really looped, vodka with Sharon; bourbon with John, and now gin and tonic wow!! Sharon & I got back home about 5:30 P.M.---then went to bed a while and then the fellows game * take us back to the party again.
John Hammond (my date) made me bring your bongo record and those guys went insane over it. I forgot it when I left and then learned later later that then had been playing it all day Sunday. Frankly I could have sold it for a mint, but I didn't and don't worry not a thing happened to it.
Sunday (Tom had called Sat. night before I went out & asked me out I was pleased but couldn't go so we have a date this week.) night John and I went to the Lakeville. He introduced me to all his buddies and they are really the greatest bunch of guys, then went back to the house [they call the "snake ranch"]. We made popcorn, drank, not really, it was nice.
It's been a cozy weekend, but one of the best I've ever had. I wish I could just tell you all--- it's not half so good in a letter.
The craziest thing happened Sunday tho: Jan called Sunday afternoon and said she was coming over. I told her O.K., but I had a date. She came real late and was really high. Sharon was here with her friend Steve adn they were sitting on the floor watching TV. Jan walks right over them and plunked herself down in Fred's chair. John H. came to take me, and was really shocked by her. We left wondering what the heck Sharon & Steve were going to do. Later learned that she sat there & then talked on the phone downstairs until 1:00 when Steve left. Honest to gosh she is dense at times!!! Then she left the front porch light on for me and Sharon had to run down and turn it off. Good heavens if I had seen that I would have thought Mom & Fred were home.
So next day we drove down to school & she said she was coming back but then called and guess who that idiot was dating---Oh Kathy, you are so so much---Yep! it was Jerry Zoller. She practically dripped all over when she told me! Honestly, right now I could hardly care less, all I feel is stupidity at ever having gone out with him in the first place.
By the way Mom called they are in Remer, Minn.---don't ask how me how---and will be home Friday. Honestly three weeks to take their time & their back in less than 2 weeks. I just don't understand why they go at all.
Sharon Walsh is in two of my classes and we really have a good time. She says to greet you.
I'm alone again tonight, but tomorrow I'm going over to Alma's. Last night I weeded and did the washing and tonight I ironed clothes. Really I'm pooped and yet there's so much to do.
Kathy, I know you're probably broke, but can't you charge that bathing suit or something, I'm really desperate as my suit ripped in another spot. If possible remember I am a big eight or small ten. But if not possible forget---I'll get by somehow---sob---as is.
it ---- -----?
Really I miss you, you idiot. Besides that I'm fed up with cooking, doing my own ironing for a change. Cleaning up the bed and besides that I'm broke. But I do love Alec.
I'm going upstairs to bed now---as Jack Paar is finished. I know this letter doesn't make any sense, but really------
Love to you,
Liz
P.S. Weiner doesn't come up because I frustrate him. How do you like that for a novel excuse. Men---bah! except----- Write a long one. Hello to Carole.
