Description
Cucumber pickle in a clear glass bottle. Charles McKinney created this unusual canning project when he placed a tiny cucumber still on the vine in the bottle. The cucumber continued to grow inside, not being picked until it nearly filled the bottle. Charles added vinegar and put the cork in to preserve the now pickled cucumber. While Charles didn't date his cucumber, we know he passed away in 1963 at the age of 94 years. It's a fair bet this cucumber is close to 75 years old. (found in collection-number was never issued, but recorded on index cards as having received)
The bottle is a Hutchinson type soda bottle from Henry Veidt of Anoka.
