Liniment Grinder - Coffee Mill
Title
Liniment Grinder - Coffee Mill
Creation Date
circa 1890
Description

Coffee grinder used by George H. Goodrich when he began making his famous Hoff’s German Liniment in this machine. It was his mother’s coffee grinder! It began shortly after Goodrich arrived in Anoka in 1886, that a man named Hoff came to him with a recipe for a liniment. It was for sore muscles and aching joints. The liniment appealed to Goodrich and he began making it on a larger scale. Sales increased and so did production until, by the 1920’s, a factory was opened in St. Paul. Millions of bottles were shipped nationwide as people supported the claims of “Good for Man or Beast” and touted its benefits. Though George died in 1925, his liniment continued to be manufactured until into the 1960’s.

George H. Goodrich began making his famous Hoff's German Liniment in this machine-his mother's coffee grinder! It began shortly after Goodrich arrived in Anoka in 1886. A German immigrant named Hoff came to Goodrich with a recipe for a liniment to treat sore muscles and aching joints. The liniment appealed to Goodrich and he began making it on a larger scale. Sales increased and so did production until, by the 1920s, a second factory was opened in St. Paul. Millions of bottles were shipped nationwide as people supported the claims of "Good for Man or Beast" and touted the liniments' benefits. During WWI when anything "German" was looked at with suspicion, the name was changed to just "Hoff's Liniment." Though George died in 1925, his liniment continued to be manufactured until into the 1960's.
