Call system for Gladstone Fire Department
Title
Call system for Gladstone Fire Department
Creation Date
before 1951
Description
In the days before 911 or a centralized call center, volunteers for the Gladstone fire department had this call list to advise other volunteers of a fire or emergency. When a resident called the Fire telephone number on the left side, the recipient would call the volunteers on their immediate right on the list. These volunteers would then call those to their immediate right who in turn would call those to their immediate right. During the daytime, some volunteers were notified via the fire siren. This continued until all the volunteers had been notified to report to the fire station on Clarence Street for an emergency.
