Description
"This round-bodied, thin-necked water jug was woven of willow and is colored a burnt orange. It has a dark, unevenly-distributed coating and a leather strap runs across the mouth of the jug, attached to doughnut-shaped handles on either side of the neck. I got this water basket jug June 2, 1938, from a Paiute woman at Walker River, Arizona. She explained that the base was willow and both the inside and outside of the jug was covered with beeswax and a mix of resin or pitch found there. This water bottle is designed so that it can be fastened to the saddle." There are 9 rows and 4 stitches per inch. There is also a mailing label attached. Cleora Helbing had the jug shipped to herself in Glenwood.
