Title
Candlestick telephone with ringer box and battery caseCreation Date
circa 1916Description
This is one of the first telephones installed in Maplewood - probably after the 1916 date on the label that states it was inspected in the Minneapolis office of Western Electric. It was installed in the Hochmuth farm house on the west side of White Bear Road (Highway 61) about halfway between Beam Avenue and County Road D. The black case held dry cell batteries that provided electricity to operate the phone in the days before commercial electricity was available in this rural area.
