Description
Identification information printed on silk fabric. Used by American pilots if they were shot down. A message explaining who they are and their situation is written in 7 languages: French, Annamese, Thai, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Lao. American flag printed at top of cloth. Translation of text reads: “I am an American airman. My plane is destroyed. I cannot speak your language. I am an enemy of the Japanese. Please give me food and take me to the nearest Allied military post. You will be rewarded.” These were called “Blood Chits” or Identification flags. Used in WW II by American aviators.
