Description
Paul Hanten joined the US Navy in 1943 after attending junior college for a couple years. He went to boot camp at Camp Perry, Virginia to be a Seabee. His first assignment was in Oakland, California, though he quickly moved on to Adak, Alaska with the 42nd Battalion. He made multiple short stops in the states until staying in Davisville, Rhode Island in Jan. 1945. During his time there he became a swimming instructor. He stayed there until the war ended and he had to be discharged, though he was able to take a trip to the Philippines with the Navy before going home. As a civilian, he travelled, went back to college, and got a job at a Duluth printing shop.
