Description
Portrait: Oil on Canvas, Bearded man in a black suit coat with brown hair and long beard, blue eyes.
*****
Portrait of an unknown bearded man in a black suit. There is no actual frame but there is a painted gold frame around the elliptical portrait.
The man's torso is facing straight-on while the head is three-quarter turned, with the eyes looking just slightly to the side.
The man is Caucasian with short brown hair and a brown beard of considerable length, about a foot long. All very clean-cut. He is wearing a black suit and tie, possibly the "western bow tie", with a white dress shirt. His blue eyes are the focal point of the painting.
Most of the painting is done in hard edges, with soft shading for the face and beard. There are about three value ranges: the darkest being the background, suit, and hair, which are all linked, the middle gray value being the skin, and the lightest value being the dress shirt. The brushwork is smooth.
The proportions are all about right and there is no sense of movement. Presumably, this is an oil painting.
