Description
Metal-bound steamer trunk covered in green canvas. The box is reinforced with wood, metal and leather straps. The leather handle is missing on the left side. The trunk is locked with two snaps and a lock. There is an illegible baggage label and stencils reading "A.W.W." and "Barnum, Minneapolis, Minn".John T. Barnum was a trunk manufacturer working in Minneapolis starting in 1880. According to a trade card produced between 1890 and 1900, Barnum was a trunk manufacturer and "Dealer in traveling bags, dog collars, etc." His shop was located at 240 Nicollet Ave in downtown Minneapolis. He died in 1908 and is buried in Lakewood Cemetery.This Barnum Trunk was owned by Lt. Albert J. Schroeder, who donated the trunk in 1998. It is from the Herman Schroeder Farm in Excelsior.
