Description
A 4-wheel single-occupant car. Thin metal body, steel wheels with rubber tracks, and plywood hatch with access to the brake mechanism. Painted black, with 2 red stripes around the upper side all around. Along the side is painted, in black numerals on a white square, "93", and in white letters trimmed in red, "Minneapolis Jaycees". This was the winning car in the 1959 Minneapolis Soap Box Derby race, built and driven by Jerry Houk. As the champion, Jerry, and his car "Tinker Toy" went on to race in the National Championship Soap Box Derby race in Akron, Ohio, in 1960. The car, along with other memorabilia and his racing uniform, were donated to Hennepin History Museum in 2005 by Mr. Houk.
