Description
WWII Army Uniform Jacket. Left sleeve has "Indian Head" insignia of the 2nd Infantry Division of the US Army. Two bars of ribbons: American Campaign, American Defense, WWII, Asiatic Pacific Campaign. Four bronze stars. Lower sleeve has 6 yellow stripes, indicating 3 years served overseas.
Two angled green bars, indicating 6 years of service Sergeant Insignia, Caduceus on collar.
This is the U.S. ARMY GREEN SERVICE UNIFORM of SGT. FLOYD MICHAEL REGAN, born in 1916 in South Dakota to Joseph & Rosie Regan. Sgt. Regan was a MOUND MN resident when he died in 1977; buried at FORT SNELLING NATIONAL CEMETERY.
FLOYD REGAN enlisted in the US Army on 23 Sep 1941 and witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii on Sunday morning. 7 Dec 1941, beginning WW2 for the US. His ARMY GREEN SERVICE UNIFORM was worn for professional wear and during formal and ceremonial occasions when not wearing a more formal blue service uniform. This was not Sgt. Regan's everyday work uniform.
Sgt. Regan's overblouse (coat) decorations are:
-lapel emblems indicate the job of Medical Technician. Technicians possessed specialized skills and rewarded with a higher pay grade; -overblouse upper sleeve Combat Service Identification Badge is for the 2nd INFANTRY DIVISION;
-left and right arm sleeve stripes are sergeant ranking:
-right chest pocket badge is the official HONORABLE SERVICE LAPEL PATCH, also called the "Ruptured Duck" patch, although it is an eagle, given to US military members
immediately identifying them as having been honorably discharged during WW2: -military ribbons above the left chest pocket were earned during Army service;
-the medal below the ribbons is the WW2 VICTORY MEDAL awarded to military members who served between 7 Dec 1941 - 31 Dec 1946.
Although this uniform is adorned with both ribbons and medals, they were/are not worn concurrently. All military medals have a corresponding ribbon; displayed according to specific protocols and regulations and are service-specific (Air Force, Army, Navy. Coast Guard). A military service member will wear ribbons OR medals depending on the uniform and occasion.”
