Description
"This oval basket with a cover has a sparse black design worked on the outside of the light tan basket and echoed on the cover. It was used as a berry basket. It was made by Snohomish, one of the Northwest tribes whose methods of weaving include twinning, plaiting and coiling. This basket, however, is made by a fourth method, imbrication, which is a special way of covering the tough spruce or cedar root coil foundation. In the picture which accompanies this basket notice the beautiful cedar root imbricated baskets placed around Chief Sheldon's daughter (Harriet Sheldon Williams)." It has a lid. There are 3 rows and 6 stitches per inch. (We have found no accompanying photo or lid.)
