Description
"This large basket is 23 inches tall and 21 inches at the base. The Choctaw Indians who made this basket for storing food wove it of split cane with a diamond design in purple, red and blue. There are two handles for lifting the basket and a hinged cover, with the hinges woven right into the basket itself. In the Choctaw country where this was used, it held peanuts, corn and grains. I have seen as many as six of these baskets in one home. all with food in them. This basket came from the Conehatta and I got it on March 15, 1934."
