Description
"This 13 1/2 inch square basket is natural split cane with a line design of woven black and red squares. It has a solid bottom and was made by the Choctaw Indians to hold food. When you went into a Choctaw home where they were preparing food, you would see a different kind of food in each basket: some ready to be cooked on the fire and some to be eaten raw. The weave of the basket, of course, determines the kind of food that can be put into it. For instance, No. 66.1.141, with its open weave, could not contain anything runny. This basket, solidly woven, perhaps could."
