Description
Black, woven, straw hat that is fat across the top and decorated with black feathers. Black veil is attached at edge of hat. Has black velvet chin strap that can be attached to loops inside the head band.In 1896 Frederick D. Young decided to open a store located in the Syndicate Building at 513 Nicollet Ave. and asked Elizabeth C. Quinlan to join him. In 1903 Fred acknowledged his friends talents by changing the name of the company to Young-Quinlan. Fred died a few years later but Elizabeth took the company to world-wide fame, and in honor of her friend, she never changed the name of the company. In 1926 she built the Young-Quinlan building on the corner of Nicollet Avenue and 9th Street, which stands today, saved from demolition by Robert and Sue Greenberg. In 1949, the Maurice L. Rothschild Company, then run by Maurice's wife Hulda, merged with the Young-Quinlan Company and moved into the Y-Q Building.
