Description
Brass cow bell with small hole in side. It was used by Peter Gideon on his farm. This was donated in 1938 by Sherman White of Excelsior. Peter Gideon was born in 1820 and moved to Minnesota near Lake Minnetonka in 1853. After ten years of experimentation, Gideon was eventually able to breed an apple that was able to withstand Minnesota's harsh winters. Gideon named it the "Wealthy" apple after his wife. In 1878, when the State Experimental Fruit Farm was established, Gideon was made superintendent, and ran the farm for eleven years. Gideon passed away in 1899.
