Compass, prismatic, field, marching Mk 9, brass bodied compass The brass body consists of the main lower part containing the graduated compass disk. Looking down on the compass there are two brass knobs on the left side: one locks /unlocks the compass from rotating and the other locks/unlocks the compass' bezel. The lid is hinged on one side. A 'projection' on the left side of the lid locks the compass' locking/unlocking knob. A flip- up sight is attached to the lower body. The back of the compass is marked MK IX over the serial number, over JW Handley Melbourne, over Australia, over 1941, Also on back of compass is the MOD 'broad arrow' (SIC) over 132. A second 'broad arrow' with a 'D' on each side also is present. Originally painted overall black.
