Description
Two black, glossy, circular, glass coasters with gold trim around their sides. In the center creating a small circle it says Minneapolis Grain Exchange in gold, and in the middle of this is a logo with a depiction of wheat in the shape of the letter M. These were donated in 1989 by William Ploeger of Minneapolis. The Minneapolis Grain Exchange, also known as MGEX, is a marketplace for trading in the wheat industry. Futures and stock options have been offered at MGEXs three Minneapolis buildings since shortly after MGEXs creation in 1881. MGEX has been the leading market for Hard Red Spring Wheat, which is a valuable variety grown mainly in the fields of the northern U.S. and Canada. As a national center of wheat and flour milling, Minneapolis Grain Exchange is likewise influential in these industries.
