Description
White porcelain shaving mug with a brush. The mug has gold decoration on the top and bottom with gold lettering saying "J.W. Zalusky." On the bottom of the mug is stamped "Limoges, France [illegible] Minneapolis." The brush has a wooden handle with a black section on top stamped with "Sterilized Nyal Quality Guaranteed." The bristles are set in rubber. Joseph William Zalusky (1881-1970) was born in Minneapolis. He worked as a draftsman and zoning engineer for the Minneapolis Planning Committee for twenty five years. Mr. Zalusky was married to Lulu Beatrice Sampson (1890-1966), with whom he had daughter Ruth Zalusky Thorstenson (1914-1997). Mr. Zalusky's primary interest was in history, he was even appointed War Historian of Hennepin County 1942. However, he was also the founder and president of the Minnesota Geological Society. After his retirement, Mr. Zalusky served as the third president and second executive secretary of the Hennepin County Historical Society, from 1949 to 1965.
