Description
“G. Blackman Superfine Colour Preparer to the Royal Family” reads part of the paper label inside this box of watercolor pigments. Painting colors were prepared by dissolving pigment cakes in water in the provided porcelain tray. Several colors of dye are included along with a blotter cloth. Set was made in London between 1790 and 1820. The name Robert Bolbe Dougall is handwritten in ink on the inside of lid. One hinge is broken away from the wood and the lock catch is missing, as is the key. Box exterior is worn and damaged.
