Description
Wood shell drum with animal skin batter heads. Has metal rims, rope tension rods and leather strainers. Leather strap on one side. Drumstick is made of wood. Note attached reads, "Given to George Ebert in Ada, MN by Carl Cooley. It belonged to Carl's father.". This was donated in 1973 by Dell Ebert of Minneapolis. Dell was born in Ada, MN on June 9, 1918. Her family moved to South Dakota by 1920. In 1930 she was in McLeod County, MN. She served in the Navy in WWII and was a "continuity director" at a Minneapolis radio station (WLOL). The George Ebert referred to in the note was likely Dell's uncle. The Cooley family has not been traced. Dell's grandfather, Daniel, was the right age for enlistment in the Civil War, but his enlistment status is unknown. Daniel was a farmer who supported eight children in Winona County.
