Title

Fox Hotel Window Hanging

Creation Date

1895 – 1965

Description

Glass stag head from the Fox Hotel. It used to hang in one of the windows in the hotel facing Water Street. The hanging is made out of stained glass: black for the head surrounded by clear crystals. Ruth Adella Sargent Morrow (Charles Fox, Sr.'s granddaughter, rescued the hanging before the hotel was demolished in 1965 and she hung it on her back porch. The hanging passed to Ruth's daughter, Katherine, after her death. Katherine requested the  window hanging to MCHS and it arrived in May 2013). Although the family calls it a fox head, it really looks like a deer or stag with antlers.
