Description
Bing and Grondahl figurine of boy buttoning short pants. Bing & Grondahl porcelain figurine #1759 was designed by Michaela Ahlmann.

This is an example of an underglaze  technique. Color is painted on the porcelain after it has been fired once.  This allows for fine details and depending on the glaze and firing temperatures, bright colors. Cobalt blue especially fires well at higher temperatures. It is then dipped in a clear thick glaze and fired again so the final surface of the object is transparent, smooth and shiny.

Bing & Grøndahl was a Danish porcelain manufacturer founded in 1853 by the sculptor Frederik Vilhelm Grøndahl and merchant brothers Meyer Hermann Bing and Jacob Herman Bing. The trademark backstamp for Bing & Grøndahl porcelains is the three towers derived from the Coat of Arms of Copenhagen. The mark, the three towers, B&G Kjøbenhavn Danmark stamped in green and B&G initials in blue indicate it was produced between 1948 and 1951.
