Description
In 1976, Alma Knutson painted the well-known Ravine House located in the Big Springs area of Harmony. The Ravine House had once served as a stagecoach stop along the Dubuque-St. Paul stagecoach route in the later 1850s until the arrival of the railroad. It also served as the post office for many years. To this date, the stone house remains, but the wooden lean-to no longer exists. However, in this scene, Alma captured both structures in what may have been springtime or very early fall based on the bright colors.
