In Ostrander, the hardware store was owned by Elmer Halling for a time in the 1930s. It was called Elmer Halling Hardware, Tools, Cutlery. This calendar photo was a part of a calendar sold as merchandise there at one point in time. However, it seems to signify a transition as well. Eventually Elmer Halling sold his business to the Anderson Brothers. Rather than getting rid of the calendar inventory Elmer had purchased, the Anderson Brothers simply stamped over his print "Anderson Bros. Successors to Elmer Halling". The year of this calendar photo is unknown as the calendar portion itself is no longer connected. However, the image depicts a child with a telephone station headset over her head and connected to a radio or telephone station. The image is entitled "The Bedtime Story" and is copyrighted in 1923. The donor had the calendar photo framed.
At one point, the hardware store was the base for the telephone operators in the 1930s. The donor knew a few of the ladies who operated the station.Geographic Names
