Description
This needlework was made by one of the Aas girls, who lived on what is known as the Amund Aas farm, seven miles southeast of Lanesboro. It was given to the donor's aunt, Anne Paulson Mikkelborg. She was born in 1862 at Oslo, Norway. Upon her marriage to the donor's uncle, Anne lived in a small house on the old Paulson place where the Sletvald buildings are now located. This picture represents the Aas place. One of the Aas girls, Ida, drowned on her way home from Lanesboro one spring day. The water rose up and driving into it with a team of horses and a buggy, she went downstream and got tangled in some trees and trapped there. The needlework is made of mostly pastel colors, forming the house, barn and its lean-to as well as a few trees in the lower corners of the artwork. Above the house are a few flowers and two words written in Norwegian. The frame is quite decorative, made out of varnished and painted wood, with some leaves carved and added to each corner.
