Description
This penmanship award was given to Miss Mary Vought of Henrytown by her teacher, William Willford, for the most most improved penmanship during the year 1870. The award states, "Premium Awarded Miss Mary Vought For most Improvement in Penmanship by William Willford, Penman." In the center of the award, an eagle is seen with a snake in its talons flying above the United States, Pacific, and Atlantic. It is in a large wooden frame which is painted mostly brown, but the inner edge is painted gold.
