Description
The men of Fillmore County contributed much to the war effort during World War I. This photo shows those from the county who were among the First Voluntary Inductive of Aero-Mechanics on April 9, 1918. Those in the first row are James Clarence Murphy of Fountain, Leo McCarthy of Fountain, Tollef Sanderson of Lanesboro, Malvin Fingerson of Fountain. Vivian Barns of Cresco, Iowa, and Leland Benson of Peterson. In the second row are Otto Moe of Lanesboro and Milbank, South Dakota, Walter Ude, Dr. Love and Sheriff E.K. Blexrud of Wykoff who served on the draft board, Helmer Eskleson of Rushford, Frank Mundell of Chatfield, and Francis Snyder of Preston. In the third row are Leonard Snyder of Preston, James Cameron of Preston, Sigvald Strom of Fountain, Casper Tollefson of Harmony, Bernard I Gilbertson of Lanesboro, and Harold Kuethy of Lanesboro.
The photo was taken by P. R. Moen of Moen Photography based in Mabel and Peterson. The photo is mounted in a tan mat with Moen's name imprinted in it. These are held in a simple wooden frame of dark brown and a gold highlight on the inside.
