Description
Upon the entry of the United States to World War I, which officially took place on April 4, 1917, drafts were performed to help bolster up the military all over the country. In Fillmore County, the fifth call for the draft came on June 24, 1918. Local photographer Moen & Palen photographed the group enlisting that day with a couple members of the Fillmore County Draft Board, Sheriff E. K. Blexrud and Dr. George A. Love.
The donor's uncle Rueben Vrieze is identified as the sixth man from the left. The printer did make a mistake when printing this call. Some of the calls with these same men have "7th Call" printed on it along with the date of June 24, 1918. This is a true "5th Call".
The photo is held in an original wooden frame painted brown and black in a tortise style.
