Description
Some of the men from Fillmore County during World War I did serve in branches other than the American Expeditionary Force.  One example is Clarence McKay of Harmony who went to serve in the Navy.  He is pictured in a sepia-toned photograph of the First Original Regiment Pier 4 Detail at the St. Helena Training Station in Norfolk, Virginia.  He is pointed out as the fourth man from the left standing in the back row.  The first two rows of men are crouching and kneeling.  In the background, several buildings, barracks and tents are seen as well as a number of trees and light posts.  On the left end of the photo, a number of other sailors, not belonging to the unit, were waling away from the portrait and can be seen as blurs.

The photo is held in a simple wooden frame with a varnish or painted coat of brown in a marbled, grainy pattern.
