Dr. Glen H. Nelson was a veterinarian and graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) class of 1951, the first CVM graduating class. As a prospective student, Dr. Nelson played a key role in the establishment of the CVM at the University of Minnesota. He was in private practiced for 10 years, a professor in the CVM Diagnostic Lab for 25 years, the executive director of the Minnesota Examining Board for 22 years and a past president of the MVMA in 1959-1960.

But somehow we struck up a close personal friendship and Shipper and I decided that there was only one possibility of those of us that had already spent five years in the service and the age was becoming a factor to get into school was to attempt to get his school started at Minnesota. And in order to start a school in Minnesota, we had to have a forum. So we formed the pre-veterinary club and called a meeting of all the students on the University of Minnesota that were interested in veterinary medicine to join us in the club.
