Description

Decorative memorial firefighting-themed electric lamp for Vance C. De Mong of the Minneapolis (Minnesota) Fire Department. The lamp could be handmade, but further research is needed to confirm if it is. 

The electric has a large decorative base. The lamp is attached to the top of the base through a small brass metal tube. The lamp turns on using a turn-switch below the bulb. The lamp has a large plain white/off-white lampshade that is trimmed with leather on the top and bottom. 

The large wooden base has a red metal department shield/crest, a hose nozzle, a metal hook with rope, an engraved plaque, and a brass kerosene lamp.The wooden base is stained a medium dark color and is polished. The base has four round ball-shaped feet on the bottom. 

The red metal shield/crest is cross-shaped. The top petal has raised gold lettering that reads: "F D". The right petal has an image of a red fire hydrant. The bottom petal has crossed axes. The left petal has a crossed ladder and hook. The circular center of the crest is bordered with a gold rope and features crossed tool such as a helmet, gold horn, a poker, a hose nozzle, an ax, and a ladder. 

On the right side of the base is a bronze metal hose nozzle head, a small hand-held American flag on a black plastic stick, and a metal hook with a strand of hemp rope. Bolted to the base is a small brass metal plaque. Engraved on the plaque: "VANCE C. DE MONG 1953-1983 M.F.D. [Minneapolis Fire Department]". 

On the left side of the base is a brass metal and glass kerosene oil lantern. The lantern has been modified with a small fake electric orange flame. The turn switch to turn it on is behind the lantern. The front of the lantern is stamped: "FIRE DEPT." The lantern has a thin metal wire handlebar on top.
