Description
Brass metal backpack style 5 gallon hand pump fire extinguisher, Smith Indian No. 90 fire extinguisher from D.B. Smith & Company.
Round oval-shaped brass metal tank. On the back of the tank is a manufacturer label that reads in part "SMITH INDIAN No 90 FIRE EXTINGUISHER ... D.B. SMITH & COMPANY UTICA, NEW YORK [Maintenance Instructions and Instructions to Prevent Freezing]". Attached to the front of the tank is a thick cotton/denim dark tan strap harness. On the top of the tank in the center is a brass handle and an orange-painted lid and air vent. The brass handle has four grips for the hand pump wand. The hand pump wand is brass metal with a black-painted wooden handle that is pumped to spray water. The wand is attached to the tank with a red rubber hose on the left side near the bottom. On the end of the wand is a manufacturer label that reads in part "INDIAN FIRE PUMP". The lid/air vent is stamped "D.B. SMITH & COMPANY / AIR VENT / KEEP OPEN / [down arrow] / INDIAN / PATENTED / UTICA, N.Y. U.S.A." The bottom of the tank is round with a flat edge to place the tank on the ground.
