Description
Two (2) boxes mounted on the left and right tiller side platforms, near the back of the 1919 American LaFrance Fire Truck (2001.01.001.1-2). The boxes are made of hard wood that is stained and varnished. The lids of the boxes are covered with corrugated rubber and secured to the base by three (3) metal latches. The latches are located on the left, front, and right sides. The rubber is secured to the lid by metal (possibly aluminum) strips that are bolted around the border. The text "SMOKE HELMET" is painted in gold, with black highlights, on the front facing side of the box, directly below the front latch. Also, black and gold lines frame the left, front, and right outer sides of the boxes. There are two (2) screw holes in the center of the front facing sides of the boxes, below the text.
