Description
Red-painted Aluminum Toolbox.
Rounded horizontal rectangular aluminum metal toolbox with a hinged lid. The toolbox is painted red with two thick gold bands and two thin white bands. On the top of the lid is a thick rectangular textured silver metal plate. The texture of the silver includes rounded pyramid-shaped bumps. The bottom of the lid is trimmed with a black band. On the front of the lid in the middle/center is a black-painted metal latch. A manufacturer mark is stamped on the latch that reads "YALE" and a small keyhole (the key is absent). The bottom of the box is trimmed with a black band. On the back of the lid are three hinges. The interior of the box (all the sides and the bottom) is lined with red-painted wood. The toolbox is bolted to the right platform of the tiller (2001.01.001.2) of the 1916 Model American La France Aerial Hook and Ladder Truck.
NOTE: Upon inspection in July 2023, the interior contents of the toolbox included: a small cardboard box with a scrap of dirty carpet, a harness strap (?), and loose parts and screws. Also inside the toolbox was a small pillow, a dirty rag, used and opened tin of rubbing compound, and a silver metal label from a fire extinguisher. These items were not inventoried and not included in the 2023 inventory.
