A 1000 gpm pumper fire truck built in the Minneapolis Fire Department Repair Shop between 1929 and 1932. The truck consists of an eight (8) foot long truck bed and a fire pump mounted on a FWD chassis. The body of the truck, including the chassis, fenders, and the four (4) solid steel wheels, is painted red and embellished with white, black and gold line designs. The two (2) side platforms are comprised of wooden running boards covered in corrugated rubber, while a platform made up of four (4) stained and varnished wooden boards extends twenty-seven (27) inches outward from the back of the truck. The truck bed is divided by a metal sheet down the middle and has a base consisting of ten (10) wooden boards. Each wheel is equipped with a silver-colored hubcap that features the FWD company name and location, as well as a seven (7) inch wide Goodyear tire complete with tread. The metal fenders covering the tires are roughly twenty-one (21) inches wide.
The hood of the car is over four (4) feet long and three (3) feet high. The grill on the front has a silver-colored metal frame that features the FWD logo at the top. The sides of the hood are equipped with hinged covers that have a pair of handles near the bottom edge. The monogram for the Minneapolis Fire Department is painted in gold above both side covers. Underneath the hood is the radiator, which can be accessed by a screw cap on the top. Attached to the screw cap is a Boyce Motor Meter device, designed to show the temperature of the radiator. Flanking the hood are two (2) Hudson Super Six clear glass headlights, with a diameter of nine and a half (9 ½) inches.
A black plaque featuring the white number “23” is directly behind the hood, below the glass windshield. Additionally, two (2) metal plaques are mounted on either side of the hood. The raised text on the plaques reads “BUILT AT M.F.D. REPAIR SHOP.” The plaque to the right of the hood also features the text “No. 1” and “Dec./29,” while the plaque on the left shows “No. 5” and “Oct./32.”
Inside the cab, below the windshield, is a raised 9.5” x 18.5” metal panel. Near the bottom of the panel are an ammeter and fuel gauge, which are on either side of an electrical switch. To the left of the panel is a black Stewart Warner Speedometer. Two (2) red foot pedals are on the floor of the cab, slightly below the base of the wooden steering wheel, which extends upward from the floor. The water pump is also a part of the cab and is mounted underneath two (2) leather upholstered seats. The pump panel is on the right side of the cab.
