Description
MSA (Mine Safety Appliances Company) Ammonia Mask with "All-Vision" Facepiece/Gas Mask (A), Carrying Straps (B), Oxygen Canister (C), and Carrying Case (D)Black Rubber Gas Mask (A): A black rubber gas mask with two (2) large round glass lenses on the left and right sides. Stamped on the top of the mask is a manufacturer mark that reads "ACME / FULL VISION / FACE PIECE NO. 6 / R / 2 70". Attached to the bottom of the mask is a large black rubber hose that connects the mask to the oxygen canister. The black rubber hose has a ring-style that can stretch and shrink. The mask has black rubber straps on the back that secure it to the wearer's head which is now torn and broken.
Canister Carrying Straps/Harness (B): Gray polyester fabric straps with silver steel metal snap buttons to secure the canister. The two (2) straps are attached to a gray-painted metal top. A gray metal bar with steel snap buttons that attaches to the matching buttons on the straps.
Red Silver Tin Metal Oxygen Canister, "Window-Cator" Canister (C): A round oval-shaped red-colored tin metal oxygen canister. On the front of the canister is a large white paper manufacturer label with printed red lettering. There is also some sort of indicator window. NOTE: The canister should be handled with great care. The canister appears to be still full of its original contents. If possible, the canister should be safely emptied and the contents should be disposed of.
Red Wooden Carrying Case (D): A small red wooden carrying case with black edging. The case is vertically rectangular shaped. The top of the case has two (2) black metal latches and a carrying handle. The lid is hinged on the bottom. Attached to the interior of the lid is an instructional flyer for using the respirator. The interior of the case has a divider to create compartments to store the mask and the canister. Large black lettering on the front of the case reads "MSA / AMMONIA / GAS MASK". In the middle of the front of the case is a green rounded rectangular informational and caution label with printed black lettering that reads "PERMISSIBLE GAS MASK / FOR AMMONIA / APPROVAL / [a white American seal for the Department of the Interior Bureau of Mines] NO.1449 / ISSUED TO THE / MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. / Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. / Approved for respiratory protection in atmospheres contain- / ing not more than 3 percent by volume of ammonia. / The approved assembly consists of: BM-1449 canister, BM- / 1403E facepiece, and BM-1403 canister harness. / CAUTION / 1. This mask protects against ammonia only. / 2. This mask must not be used where the oxygen content / of the air is less than 16 percent. / 3. Renew exhausted canister immediately. / 4. Read cautions on the canister label, and instructions in / the lid of the mask case." Under the green label is a large embossed seal.
