Cataract 1 Black Leather Firefighter's Helmet
A black leather firefighter's helmet from the Cataract Engine 1 Company in St. Anthony from 1859 through 1873. The helmet has a wide and curved brim with a long duckbill in the back. The helmet has a tall and round crown with four (4) raised seams in a cross pattern. The helmet has a large decorative front piece with decorative edging. On the top of the front piece is a red stripe in a hole that looks like a ribbon with raised white lettering that reads "CATARACT". In the center of the front piece is a large white "1" with decorative edging. There is a blank black stripe with decorative edging under the number. On the top of the helmet is a decorative brass metal front piece holder in the shape of a 19th century fireman wearing a casual firefighter outfit with a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, boots, and a firefighter's helmet. The figure is crouching and looking down the front of the helmet. The figure is playing a horn/trumpet. The interior of the helmet has a tan cotton fabric headband lining.
