Description
Baby Cradle. It was handmade in 1887 for Mabel Barsness Swenson, daughter of Christoffer Barsness of Barsness Township. Eight children used it and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, particularly the family of Bertha Barsness Erickson. The cradle is 17.5" wide and 36" long. Sides are fitted securely into corner posts and then nailed. The cradle stands at its highest point 25". The bottom of the crib itself stands 5" off the floor. The sides are 10" deep at the narrowest point, and rise to a depth of 14". The cradle is painted (stained?) brown. Years of use have worn off the finish to bare wood. There was a mattress, but it is no longer with the crib.
