Drum: The drum was used during the civil war. the drum has a rope tightening system which when loosened or tightened would alter the sound the drum made. Engraved on a brass plate on the side of the drum is Made In 1850." Painted in gold and red lettering on the side is "7th Minn. Vols. Co. G, Red Wing" This drum was made in 1851 and is an authentic original with the exception of the head, which was placed on the drum in September 1993. The head is of calfskin, as was the original one. The drum was carried and played by Sidney W. Park (of Red Wing) while assigned to Company G, Seventh Minnesota Volunteers during the Civil War. The head was replaced September 1993 by an authentic calfskin head, as the original had split. See 1993.68.1 (drumsticks made for drum).
