Description
Legging: World War I leather leggings. The leggings are brown leather. At the top of the opening is a leather strap with 5 holes on one legging and 3 holes on the other. The strap is inserted through a slit in the leather legging, comes across the opening and buckles with a brass buckle with one tooth and the end inserts through a leather loop. The bottom curves up slightly at the opening. At the bottom of the opening is a brass oval piece that inserts down into a flat brass square. There is stitching down one side and goes across 3 1/4" from the bottom to the other side. Stamped in black on the inside top is 38-13" (?). Written in black on the right inside top is "MYRON W. SMITH M.R.C". There is a thin layer of leather on the inside bottom and side.
Worn by Dr. Myron W. Smith of Red Wing. He was a Captain in the Medical Corps at Camp Custer, Michigan. Joined the service August 23, 1918.
