Description
Bag, Laundry: World War I laundry bag. The laundry bag is off white canvas. It is 27 1/2" long x 26 1/2" wide. The top closure has 8 metal grommets and a cotton rope. On the inside of the hem in 1/8" letters is "HARV". Stamped on the outside near the top is "H M Johnson" and "S-118". On the reverse side is printing that is not readable. Printed on the front in black is "HARVEY JOHNSON" (1 1/8" high letters) / "125" (1 3/4" letters) / "USFA" (1 3/4" letters). Stamped on the back is "Harvey M. Johnson" (3/4" letters). Printed on the bottom is "El Paso/Tent and Awing Co". Condition - There are numerous stains in front.

Worn by Harvey Johnson of Red Wing. He was a First Lieutenant. He joined on July 15, 1917. He left with Co. L of Red Wing on August 27, 1917, and later transferred to Battery C, 125th F.A., AEF. According to his obituary, he was a veteran of the Mexican border war and World War I, served as the captain of the Red Wing State guard unit during World War II, and in 1951 when the state guard was reactivated and he was elevated to the rank of lieutenant colonel and battalion commander.
