Description
Legging: World War I knitted hand warmers. The hand warmers are olive green wool. They are fingerless and thumbless. There is a vertical slit for the thumb. There is 2" ribbing for the palm, 1 3/4" stockinet, and 5" ribbing for the wrist. Condition - Good.

Worn by Harvey Johnson of Red Wing. He was a First Lieutenant. He joined on July 15, 1917. He left with Co. L of Red Wing on August 27, 1917, and later transferred to Battery C, 125th F.A., AEF. According to his obituary, he was a veteran of the Mexican border war and World War I, served as the captain of the Red Wing State guard unit during World War II, and in 1951 when the state guard was reactivated and he was elevated to the rank of lieutenant colonel and battalion commander.
