Description
Helmet: World War I helmet. (It is not a M-1917 "Doughboy" helmet). The steel helmet is army green. It is approximately 3 5/8" deep. The head opening is 7 1/4" wide and 7 3/4" long. The brim is 1" wide in the front and back and 1 1/8" wide on the sides. The brim is lightly fluted. On the sides is a small bale (loop) formed from the helmet for the chin strap. There is no chin strap. There is a short black twisted cord tied to one of the bales. Condition - On the top inside of the helmet is the remnant of a liner. It is light brown and fuzzy. There are some scratches, paint chips, and dents.
Worn by Lynn Beeman. He was a Private First Class in the army in World War I and served in Europe. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary during World War II. He likely did not live in Goodhue County during his time of service in World War I. According to his obituary, he was born in Iowa. After World War I he lived in Zumbrota, then moved to Wabasha, and in 1936 he moved to Red Wing.
