Skirt: Navy blue heavy wool serge (cotton?) suit skirt showing military influence in design. The skirt has a 2" wide white canvas reinforcement on the waistband which closes with 2 hooks and eyes. The waist closes with 1 hook and eye and 6 side snaps. There is a narrow pocket on each front side with a slanted, bounded slit. The front waistband of the skirt has a 2" wide serge strip with a large black plastic? button decoration on each side. One button has a raised circle like the jacket buttons. This covers the basting stitches for gathering. The hem has been reinforced with black satin. The seams have been finished with a black material that has faded to olive. Condition - There are some small holes. MOLD? - The skirt may have had mold. There were brownish colored spots on the satin hem and outside hem. It was laid out to dry and was vacuumed on 2/8/2006.

Worn by Mrs. Emma (George) Lohmeyer (1/24/1883-9/30/1969). Emma Luhman was born in Goodhue to Mr. and Mrs. John Luhman. She married George Lohmeyer on 9/5/1900 in Goodhue. They farmed in the Zumbrota area and moved to Red Wing in 1918. The donor is her son-in-law.
