Description
Parasol: Ecru silk muslin? parasol with ecru gauze like netting. The parasol is 34 3/4" long from ferrule to handle. The cover is ecru silk muslin?. Towards the bottom of the cover is an approximately 6" wide ecru gauze like netting with thin cream horizontal stripes. At the bottom of the cover is approximately 6 1/2" wide netting of the same type. Above the top layer of netting is a 3" wide ecru lace embroidered overlay of flowers. There is no inside cover. The cover is approximately 22 1/2" long (at a rib, including the netting and excluding the netting on the ferrule) and has an approximately 24" diameter when opened (excluding the netting). It has black metal ribs. The stick is light colored plain wood on the top half and medium brown colored slightly knobbed and gnarled wood at the bottom half. The very bottom of the stick has knobs in the wood. Above the knobs is cream colored twisted thread cord wrapped around the stick. The cord has two large tassels that are 3 1/2" long. The tassel has a small and then large ball at the top and fringes at the bottom. There is no handle. The ferrule is light brown plain wood and is 4 1/4" long. At the top of the cover and the bottom of the ferrule are three? layers of approximately 1 3/4" wide ecru gauze like netting with thin cream horizontal lines that is bunched together. The sliding tube that opens the parasol is silver colored metal. There is a metal clip inside the tube that is pushed in to open the cover. The bottom of the ribs above the sliding tube are covered in ecru silk muslin?. Condition - The cover has light brown staining all over. There is a small fray in the silk muslin? cover towards the top. The bottom layer of netting has a large hole and frayed areas. The wood stick has light black marks by the metal tube. Belonged to Fanny and Kathryn Kuhn Peterson. (Possibly Fannie Kuhn of Red Wing who was born in 1885 and died in 1980. Her parents were William and Katherine Kuhn).
