Description
Bowl, Sugar: a) Bowl is two handles and a floral design overall. b) Lid with handle on top. Sugar bowl given to Rev. Christian Bender by St. John's Lutheran Church, Red Wing. He served St. John's for 30 years until he died in 1901. He came from Baden, Germany to Red Wing in 1867. He organized German Lutheran congregations in West Florence and at Grace Church, Goodhue Township and served churches in Frontenac, Goodhue Township, and Zumbrota at the same time he served St. John's. He preached in the German language. The bowl (1995.123.4a) and the cover (1995.123.4b) are silverplate. They have a lot of decorative engraving.
