Description
Coat of a Civil War uniform. Dark blue with red collar and epaulets. there are 9 gold colored buttons on the left side and 8 (2 missing) on the right of the double breasted coat with tails that has red embellishments.matching the design at the cuffs. Gold piping frames the red decorations and the front. A stamp on the lining indicates it was inspected at Schuykill? arsenal. this coat was worn by Menzo Ashley in 1868 when he enlisted at age 16.5 in the Pennsylvania regiments. First he was with the seventh Pennsylvania Cavalry and later was a member of Company B of the 97th PA infantry. 
In the inside left breast pocket was found a button and 3 bent washers used to secure buttons
